Four charged with murder after brawl death near Brisbane

Four young men will face court on murder charges over the death of a 21-year-old man who was fatally injured during a street brawl south of Brisbane.

Jongkuch Achieu, from Redbank Plains, was found with critical head injuries after a large group descended on a wild party at a short-term rental home on Discovery Blvd in Bahrs Scrub on July 26. Paramedics performed CPR on him at nearby Orchard Ave, but he died in Princess Alexandra Hospital less than a week later.

Chaos on the street

Neighbours described waking to chaotic scenes, with cars smashed and debris including broken glass and furniture littering the suburban street. One woman told 7NEWS at the time: “It was pure chaos, they were running all over the place (and) smashing things.”

Following investigations, police made five arrests in Logan, South Brisbane and Ipswich on Thursday.

Charges laid

An 18-year-old from Collingwood Park, an 18-year-old from MacGregor, a 19-year-old from Doolandella, and a 19-year-old from Inala were each charged with one count of murder. A 22-year-old from Heathwood was also charged with contravening an order about information necessary to access information stored electronically.

All five are due to face court on Friday.

Police thank community

Queensland Police acknowledged the public’s assistance, saying information from residents and community leaders was “valuable to the investigation”. They added: “The assistance provided to police … demonstrates the important role the community plays in helping police investigate serious offences.”
