A 21-year-old woman has died from burn injuries sustained in a unit fire on the Sunshine Coast.
Fire on King Street, Buderim
The fire broke out at a unit on King Street in Buderim about 7:35pm on Sunday, according to Queensland Police. The woman, from Kallangur, was critically injured in what police described as a large-scale fire.
She was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital with significant burns and in a life-threatening condition, the Queensland Ambulance Service said. Police confirmed on Monday that she had died from her injuries.
Evacuation and nearby petrol station risk
Firefighter Cameron Mackenzie said the fire was contained to the woman’s unit, but the entire unit complex was evacuated as the whole place was well involved when firefighters arrived. The unit neighbours a petrol station, and police noted that the risk to the community if the fire spread contributed to the large police presence.
A woman in her 30s was assessed by paramedics but was uninjured. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
