Transport for NSW has issued a travel alert for the weekend, warning of significant disruptions across Sydney's transport network due to maintenance works and major events.
Metro and Train Services Affected
Sydney Metro services will not run between Tallawong and Sydenham on Saturday and Sunday. Replacement buses will operate only between Tallawong and Chatswood. Passengers travelling to or from Waterloo are advised to catch trains to Redfern and transfer to local buses. Trains will continue between Epping or Chatswood and Sydenham.
Five major rail lines face disruptions. On the T8 Airport & South Line, buses replace trains between Glenfield, Sydney Airport, Sydenham and Central all weekend. Trains will still run between Macarthur and the City via Granville, between Campbelltown and Central, and between Sydenham and the City.
Trackwork also affects the T2 Leppington & Inner West, T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra, T5 Cumberland and South Coast lines. Buses replace trains between Leppington and Glenfield on T2 and T5. On T4, buses replace trains between Cronulla and Sutherland all weekend, with additional disruptions between Waterfall and Sutherland on Saturday morning. South Coast line will have replacement buses on sections both days.
Road Closures and Harbour Bridge Works
Motorists face overnight maintenance works on the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Harbour Tunnel. Southbound tunnel lanes close from 10:30pm Friday to 5am Saturday, followed by northbound closures from 12:30am to 6am Saturday. Up to four lanes on the Harbour Bridge will be closed at various times overnight.
On Sunday morning, road closures will be in place for the Harbour 10 running event, with up to 9500 participants expected. Closures affect Circular Quay, The Rocks, Barangaroo, Pyrmont and surrounding areas between 4am and 1pm.
Ongoing roadworks on the Warringah Freeway, Woodville Road, Parramatta Road, Old Pitt Town Road and Bells Line of Road will also cause lane closures, detours and stop/slow traffic conditions.
Ferry and Travel Advice
Circular Quay Wharf 6 remains closed for maintenance until August 28. Transport for NSW advises: "Plan your trip at transportnsw.info and check the latest traffic conditions at livetraffic.com."
