Police officers were forced to jump out of the way after a stolen car was driven directly at them during an arrest in Melbourne's Heidelberg West.
The officers arrived at a property around 7am on Friday to execute a search warrant in relation to an alleged hit-run incident that occurred in the same suburb last weekend.
Alleged Hit-Run Incident
The alleged hit-run unfolded when a woman allegedly jumped into a man's car and reversed over him. The 68-year-old man remains in a critical condition.
When police got out of their unmarked police car to attend the property, an allegedly stolen car parked in the driveway was driven straight at them.
Vehicle Crashes and Arrests
The vehicle then lost control and crashed into a neighbour's fence, causing significant damage, before allegedly ramming into the unmarked police car.
The alleged offenders, a 41-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman, didn't get far. They were arrested only about 20 metres away next to a children's playground.
Another woman, aged 51, was also arrested at the home without incident.
Witness Describes Chaos
A witness described the chaotic scene: "The car just peels out of here, and I hear a bunch of banging and crashing, and now I'm seeing the damage, and I'm like, oh my god."
"All the cops just come out of the cars and tackle this guy, and I'm just like, what's going on?" another witness said.
Police say the trio are being interviewed in relation to the hit-run last weekend.
"They will be interviewed by Banyule-Nillumbik Crime Investigation Unit detectives and it is yet to be established if the pair had any involvement in the hit-run collision on 1 August," police said in a statement.
