Two Scottish nationals remain in custody facing drug supply charges after police allegedly uncovered a large quantity of ketamine in Sydney's North Shore.
The 23-year-old woman and 30-year-old man were arrested at a hotel room on June 29 following an investigation into alleged drug supply. Police responded after a member of the public reported suspicious behaviour.
Alleged Ketamine Discovery
A search of a nearby car allegedly revealed about 105 kilograms of a prohibited drug, believed to be ketamine, packed into shopping bags and luggage in the boot. Police also seized mobile phones, more than $2000 in cash, and alleged drug sale ledgers from the hotel room.
Three days earlier, officers raided a short-stay rental property in Artarmon, North Sydney, and allegedly found about two kilograms of suspected ketamine, scales, disposable gloves, clear resealable bags with white crystallised residue, and luggage.
Charges and Court Appearance
The duo were charged with two counts of drug supply, one involving a "large commercial quantity". They were refused bail at Manly Local Court on June 30 and are scheduled to appear at the Downing Centre on August 26.
Police allege the pair travelled to Australia "for the sole purpose of taking part in the distribution and supply of large commercial quantities of prohibited drugs".
Detective Acting Inspector Alison Dixon said drug syndicates are using short-stay rentals to run operations. "We have seen this before in short stays and encourage property owners to be wary," she said. "People staying in hotels and Airbnbs, we see a lot of illegal activities come and go through those places."
