Brisbane's 34-4 Magic Round win over Canterbury came at a heavy cost for veteran playmaker Ali Brigginshaw, who now faces a lengthy suspension after being sent straight to the NRL judiciary.
The 36-year-old was charged with a grade-three dangerous contact offence on Monday, a day after she was sin-binned for lifting Tayla Preston above the horizontal and dumping the Bulldogs halfback head first into the turf in Wagga Wagga.
Commentary backlash
Andrew Johns likened the tackle to a WWE wrestling move during commentary and suggested Brigginshaw was fortunate not to have been sent off.
Record at risk
Brigginshaw is expected to front the judiciary on Tuesday and could miss a Broncos NRLW game for the first time since the competition started in 2018. She has played all 61 of a possible 61 games. Depending on the outcome, she could equal or exceed the longest ban in NRLW history, currently four matches.
Reigning premiers Brisbane sit first with a 5-0 record and face Canberra this week, before a grand final rematch with the Sydney Roosters and a Queensland derby against the Gold Coast.
NRLW players typically receive suspensions proportionate to the league's 11-match regular season, rather than the 24-game NRL. Brigginshaw is set to retire at the end of this season.
Other charge
Newcastle forward Tayla Predebon is also facing a two-game ban for a careless high tackle on Parramatta's Martha Mataele from the same round.
