An Australian man has died and his wife has been seriously injured in a horrific car crash in Bali.
Julianne Stoakes and her husband Andy were passengers in a Toyota Rush that slammed into a concrete barrier and lamp post along the Bali Mandara Toll Rd on Saturday night.
The Crash and Aftermath
The couple and their friend were taken to a nearby hospital, where police said the father from Roleystone, Perth, died from injuries suffered in the freak crash.
His wife has remembered her husband of 44 years as a “great father and grandfather” and someone who was easy-going.
Remembering Andy
“Both of my sons are plumbers, and my husband’s a plumber,” Stoakes told 7NEWS. “My husband is a good tradesman of all sorts, so he actually has taught them as well from bricklaying, brickpaving, carpentry work, all that. He’s been an inspiration to all of them ... so that’s a legacy he’ll leave.”
The couple had been heading to Denpasar to buy tiles. Behind the wheel was their Balinese friend of 10 years who had been staying with them in Jimbaran. All three were wearing seatbelts.
Recovery and Support
Julianne suffered bruising and broke her ribs, sternum and shoulder. She also suffered fractures in her feet and back, and has blood in her lungs. She was flown from Indonesia to Royal Perth Hospital for treatment and has now been discharged.
Stoakes, who works casually as a patient care assistant at Armadale Hospital, faces a long road to recovery and is being supported by loved ones. A GoFundMe has been set up to assist her while she is off work.
