A Brisbane homeowner is reeling after his house was targeted for the sixth time, with footage appearing to show children as young as 10 involved in the latest attempted break-in.
Jack Bruce was asleep inside his Holland Park home with his family, including his nine-month-old baby and 10-year-old child, when an intrusion alert woke them in the middle of the night.
Security footage shows children involved
Security footage appears to show young children vaulting a wall before opening a gate to allow adults to access the property. On Sunrise on Wednesday, Bruce said despite having a comprehensive security system, the family has to remain constantly vigilant to protect their home.
“I was quite disappointed last night after this had occurred because it really puts a big burden on us to be consistently making sure that we’re dotting our i’s and crossing our t’s with the house every single night,” Bruce said.
“It’s at a state where there’s clearly really little kids involved, and they’re actually being used to gain access to areas that adults can’t and then let the adults in.”
Pattern of incidents
Bruce said it is not the first time he has seen young people involved in incidents at his home, but this was the first time he had clearly seen young children involved.
“It does seem to be each time there’s definitely some adult leading, and then the teenagers and the kids are then used, or they help to then gain access and steal things,” he said.
The repeated incidents are particularly concerning given Holland Park remains one of the safer suburbs in the area, recording a relatively low crime ranking of just 10 out of 100 on Red Suburbs’ Crime Map of Australia. A total of 68 burglaries or break-and-enters were reported in the suburb in 2025.
The repeated targeting has led Bruce to create a neighbourhood group chat so residents can alert each other when offenders return to the area.
